Is the festival wheelchair friendly ? Is handicap parking available and what are the hours ?

  2. Lauren says:

I just went to the festival on Saturday with my mom (had a blast in spite of the occasional shower!) While I was there I picked up a bunch of different fruit flavoured licorice whips from a booth real close to one of the gates - but I forgot to ask if they have a store outside of the festival! Now I’m watching my yummy candy supply dwindle rapidly and it is very sad. Does that vendor have a regular storefront somewhere in the Valley, or do I have to wait until next year to get my watermelon licorice fix?

I was at the festival on Sunday, and I came across an antique dealer who had a doll hoosier for sale. I wanted to buy it for my mother, but I can’t remember the dealers name. I know it started with an S. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

Been going for 8 years now & enjoy everything you have to offer. The persons working the festival are top notch, helpful and kind. Money spent on food is never a problem - what with most people going to fast food joints nowadays, your festival is a BARGAIN! The food is REAL - not processed. Why anyone would not want to eat any of your fantastic viddles that are offered is beyond me!!

Your craft people and all involved from the children’s events to the food stands are always courteous, polite and extremely helpful. Parking is NEVER a problem with shuttle service available at your outer spaces.

You have a fantastic festival. Please don’t change a thing. All of you involved should be commended and my thanks to all your hard work in making the festivals a MUST SEE event every single year! We always have so much fun!!!

    Thank you!!

Will be attending Festival tomorrow for the first time in many years and would like to know if there is a handicap parking area?
Have missed going to the festival and intend to make it an annual trip again.
    Thank you.

  6. My husband and I love to visit the Kutztown Festival every year, usually on the 4th of July holiday. We have been there rain or shine for many years. A few years we were late in the day, and they gave us tickets to come back again! The people are very nice, the food is wonderful, the music is incredible. We can never leave without at least one big bag of kettle corn to take home.

Thank you for the great opportunity to have a nice and wholesome family day.

Oops — It’s probably obvious but I meant “quilt barn” not “quilt farm”!

Hi - What a wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch fair this year - we absolutely loved it - and everything about it!! We have been attending for many years, but this year it seemed exceptional!! And I must comment on how much we “older” folk appreciated all the seating throughout the fair - it was wonderful and very thoughtful!!! Thanks for an amazing adventure (wish I had more money to spend!!!)

  9. Blogmaster says:

Betty, Yes there is a handicap parking area close to the Festival entrance.

  10. Blogmaster says:

Rebecca, We will try to find the antique dealer’s name.

  11. Jamie Weaknecht says:

Lauren, my cousin runs the candy stand. He only sells candy during the festival, I just e-mailed him what you said though. Glad you liked it, it’s good stuff!

  12. cyndi says:

  13. Kara says:

    Hi,
We were at the festival today(July 4th) in the rain but had a great time!!! We brought home a big bag of kettle corn from the vendor over by the blacksmith and tractors. I was wondering if you knew their name and if you can get more by mail! It’s SO good and we’ve eaten 1/2 the bag already!!!
    Thanks!
    Kara

What happens to the festival if it rains? It is supposed to rain on and off today… I’m worried we will drive all the way out there and it will be closed

  15. Blogmaster says:

Corey, generally the Festival goes on rain or shine.

  16. Blogmaster says:

Cyndi, although the portrayal and hanging are based on Pennsylvania Dutch folklore, there is some historical documentation of the events surrounding this story and the hanging itself.

  17. cyndi says:

i found out this was made into a play of some sort in virginia i believe 2007 the year by bethsheba doran called nest.but i would like to go about finding out more on this. how do i go about it. where do i begin?//

  18. Donn says:

The admission is a bit too much, don’t you know? At least the coupons help. But the food is great although them funnel cakes go right through me, haha don’t you know!

  19. Mary says:

My husband and I attended the Festival for the first time this year. It was wonderful. I liked that they did not charge for parking. All the food was great. We enjoyed the Sauerkraut demonstration that was given, and the little Amish boys that gave out the samples, they were so cute! We went on line and ordered more products from them. I loved the quilt barn and the flag man too. All in all it was a great time. See you next year!

  20. Emily says:

Would anyone be able to tell me the name or contact info of one of the vendors who was at the festival: it was a female painter (I believe acrylic?) whose works were mainly of animals and farms, she had many miniatures of all different dog/cat breeds and other domestic animals like llamas, guinea pigs etc. she also did larger works, they were all nature related. I looked on the links page at all the painters but none were the right one. Please help! She had a painting with her I can’t live without!

  21. Margaret says:

Hi - I am trying to find out the name of the blacksmith who was at the Kutztown Festival in 2007. He was over by the kettle corn. I’m looking to buy some more of his products, but need a way to contact him. Can you help me out? Thanks, Margaret

  22. Blogmaster says:

We were glad to provide the information requested in two recent messages (quilt auction, stamps with colleges and universities). We’ll be happy to try to answer other festival-related questions!

We have moved and were unable to attend this year. We truly missed attending and wanted to purchase one of the large outdoor “vehicles” for children. Can anyone tell me the name of the company?

  25. AlexM says:

    Your blog is interesting!

    Keep up the good work!

  26. Carol P says:

We have been attending the Kutztown Folk Festival since our children were very young. We have bought many things and have enjoyed the festival very much. This past year, 2008, I am sorry to say we purchased something from a vendor that took our order and told us we would have the item in 4-6 weeks. However, on the order form it states 8-12 weeks. It has been 7 months and I still do not have the item that cost me $158. Do you stand behind your vendors? Is there some way to check if you have had any other complaints about this vendor? Would appreciate your response. Thank you

    Carol P.

  27. Blogmaster says:

    Hi Carol,
Please send me the details of this transaction, as well as the craftsman.
We will get it resolved for you immediately.
As the work is handmade, sometimes the craftsmen do get behind due to personal or family issues. However, it is the exception, not the norm, and something like you experienced is not condoned or tolerated.
We are very sorry this experience happened to you, but we will get it resolved right away.
    Sincerely,
    Dave Fooks
    Director

  28. Tammy says:

I clicked on the 2008 quilts, but there were no pictures of quilts.

  29. Blogmaster says:

    Hi Tammy,
When you click on the 2008 Quilts button, it brings up a new page and loads the images. As they are of a high resolution, it may take a bit longer than you are used to. Just leave the page open, and they will load. If this doesn’t work, let me know, and we’ll get you the photos.
    Thanks!
    Dave

I always appreciate the fact that the festival is dog-friendly. We take our dogs and enjoy talking with the many people who stop and chat about our or their four legged friends. Thanks for the water buckets placed around the fairgrounds. Would you please consider a few more for the 2009 year as well as a map of where to find them? Many thanks!

  31. Robert Beizer says:

    Hello,

I am celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first time I attended the Kutztown Folk Festival.

In 1969 I went to the Festival as a participant in the Main Stage pageant called “Men of One Master” written by our high school drama teacher J. Bradley Smoker.

I worked on that production for three summers following graduation from Abington Sr. High School.

Most summers since I have returned to the Festival as a visitor. Even going to both Fairs that were created by the unfortunate events which created a split within the Festival management.

I have always encouraged friends and family members to visit the Festival.

    Here’s to another 60 years!!

    Congratulations!

My boyfriend and I (we are both in our 50s) go every year and have a wonderful time every year. Can’t wait to go to the 2009 festival.

Food is great. We love all the authenic German food.

We also loved the Martin family band - I am glad to see they will be there for 2009.

Keep up the great work - this is the best event ever!

  33. I was a vendor at the 2009 fair (Sauerkraut maker) and it was a great time for my family and I. The customers were freindly and the weather was great. Many of our customers are repeat customers from prior years and some have kept in contact with us during the winter. Thanks to all those behind the scenes who make this all come together. I can’t wait to see everyone again next year.
    Thanks
