PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH STYLE FAMILY FUN AT THE 2009 KUTZTOWN FOLK FESTIVAL

Nothing tops the good old-fashion summer fun to be found at the Kutztown Folk Festival, June 27 – July 5, 2009 at the fairgrounds in Kutztown, PA.

The family-oriented festival that celebrates Pennsylvania Dutch folklife attracted a record-setting 135,000 visitors in 2008. Now in its 60th year, the Kutztown Folk Festival is the oldest, continuing folklife festival in America.

The Festival has been selected twice in recent years as one of America’s Top 200 Shows by the American Bus Association, was named as one of three “must see” festivals in the region by the Washington Post, and listed as one of the nation’s top 50 offbeat festivals (and the only one in Pennsylvania) by USA Today Magazine.  It is also ranked 9th in the nation for craft-oriented festivals by Sourcebook, an independent publication which annually evaluates hundreds of craft shows throughout the United States.

Included in the nine day festival are folk art and crafts by 200 juried Pennsylvania German and early American craftsmen, a huge exhibition and sale of nearly 2,500 beautiful, hand-made Pennsylvania Dutch quilts, folklore programs that highlight the traditions of the Pennsylvania Germans, historical reenactments, antiques and collectibles,  music, dancing and entertainment running continuously on six stages, an expanded program of children’s activities and the best Pennsylvania Dutch food anywhere.
